Fighting Blight

Saturday, November 14th, 2009

As a part of our Community Restoration Initiative, Compassion Corps is committed creating a livable space in the Fairhaven neighborhood for all residents. We are out on a regular basis cleaning up our neighborhood and engaging our neighbors in conversation.

However we need your help. There are areas within the Fairhaven Community that are blighted, overgrown, side walks that are clearly broken, and streets filled with pot-holes. So, Compassion Corps has committed to identifying one problem and advocating for solutions. We will not relent until these problems are addressed in our community.

Please click on this link and tell our political leaders that a blighted urban neighborhood is bad for the whole city.

Thanks for your help and we will update you on our progress.

Community Wide Food Drives

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

Fairhaven Food Pantry, a community initiative of Compassion Corps, is pleased to announce that we had TWO successful food drives in October and currently have TWO food drives happening in New Haven for the month of November.

This is all a part of our focus to “Fill the Pantry” and prepare for the demand the winter months bring and to meet the increase in demand for our services due to the national economic downturn.

You can help by hosting a Mobilization & Awareness event at your home. Compassion Corps will share about the mission of Fairhaven Food Pantry and the issue of food insecurity among the urban poor. This is a great way to mobilize your neighbors to participate in a “Neighborhood” food drive. It’s that easy!

Remember, we will make a difference in the lives of the urban poor and begin the process of neighborhood transformation from everyone doing a little. If everyone of us…motivated by the need around us…will just commit to picking up a few extra items at the store then Fairhaven Food Pantry will stay full and our services remain uninterrupted.

Thanks for your concern and active participation.

Fairhaven Food Pantry: Nov. Benefit

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

I am happy to announce:

Fairhaven Food Pantry (FFP) is partnering with Salon Space in North Haven for a CUT-A-THON to benefit our work in Fairhaven. Salon Space is a full-service, professional Salon that is committed to being active in combating food insecurity in our neighborhoods. So, on November 15 from 9 am to 5 pm their stylists have committed a full day to cut hair for a suggested minimum donation of just $25.00. This is well below their usual prices and 100% of the funds raised will go directly to FFP.

This is where you come in. We have 60 appointment slots to fill between today and November 15. First, You can help us today by booking your next hair appointment at Salon Space for Sunday November 15, 2009. Second, FFP is ready to provide signs + fliers to anyone who wants to raise awareness of this event at your church, places of business or organization so we can fill these appointments. Finally, you can take this information and send it through your personal (local) email, twitter, facebook lists to let people know you are supporting this fundraiser and encourage them to book a haircut.
