Trip 1: Comayagua, Honduras
Date: Trips are being scheduled for 2010 today
Cost: $875
Travel Cost:Â flights arranged by participants
Facilitator: Eric Neubauer
Trip Description:
Surrounded by beautiful mountains Comayagua is a small city situated two hours outside the capital of Honduras. Upon arrival in Comayagua you will be confronted by the majesty of the natural surroundings contrasted by the hash poverty that affects every aspect of Honduran society. Once the political and religious capital of Central America, Comayagua now serves as a commercial center for many of the surrounding mountain towns and villages. Rich in history Comayagua serves as an ideal base for our Compassion Corps Voyage.Â
Our team will engage in a transformative spiritual journey through the adventure of serving the people of Honduras in the areas of their greatest need and engaging daily in the rich and diverse Central American culture. The team will work in the city of Comayagua and the surrounding mountain villages bringing relief and hope to the poorest of the poor. Together we will make a tangible difference in the lives of orphans, school children, hospital patients, and those suffering with HIV / AIDS. Each day will bring a unique mix of worship, work, exploration, and reflection.Â
At Compassion Corps we want each participant to selflessly serve and leave with a sense of personal discovery. We want you to answer the question, “How can I be a voice for the poor in my community?” We call this translating the experience!
Trip Philosophy:
Compassion Corps seeks to facilitate a truly unique travel experience to areas in greatest need. Our hope is to develop teams from across the United States and Canada to work in urban, inner-city neighborhoods and developing nations. Each participant is invited to join us on a journey of selfless service, personal discovery, and spiritual development. With a mix of adventure – these “pilgrimages” set the stage for life transformation. Transformative experiences don’t just happen but are developed in an environment of mutual trust, respect and our individual willingness to let-go and become a part of the team. Each member will receive general information about Honduras, transportation, lodging, meals, work projects and our unique adventure experience. But we ask you to allow each day to be a bit of a surprise* as we seek to weave a sense of awe and wonder back into our predictably busy lives.Â
*Upon request you may receive a detailed, daily itinerary.Â
Trip 2: New Haven, Connecticut
Date: Trips are being scheduled for 2010 today
Cost: TBD
Travel Cost:Â flights arranged by participants
Facilitator: Eric Neubauer
Trip Description:
New Haven is America's first planned city. In hopes of finding new life in the New World, English Puritans established the city as a port from storms brewing on the other side of the Atlantic ocean. Much of this historic sanctuary survives today. New Haven is the home of Yale University and boasts of rolling hills, beautiful beaches, unique architecture and a rich history dating back 370 years. Tucked behind the Gothic buildings and high-powered enterprises, however, is a poor and ethnically diverse populace dwelling in forgotten neighborhoods.
With the child poverty rate hovering at 13.8 %, Connecticut is host to some of the poorest urban neighborhoods in America. Your team will have the opportunity to invest, restore, and bring transformation into the forgotten spaces of this city. You will be given the opportunity to serve the poor through work projects, soup kitchens, food delivery, or by hosting a block party for youth. In addition to your work among the poor, each pilgrim will have the time to delve into New Haven's history, reflect and relax at the beach. We want each participant to leave with a sense of personal discovery, and ask themselves the question: “How can I be a voice for the poor in my city?”
